PRODUCTION MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an experienced carpenter, action sports enthusiast, forward-thinking, no-nonsense individual to join the Keen Ramps team. The production manager should have experience in the carpentry and/or manufacturing industry and will supervise 2-3 production workers/ plan daily work in the shop, and be responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the skate ramps we produce. This position requires excellent organization skills and the ability to manage and work alongside a team.

The production manager is to oversee and participate in the daily operations of ramp manufacturing and related skate event and/ or rental/ production activities. The production manager will work closely with The Operations Manager (Tom) to ensure all aspects of daily workflow are done in the most time/ cost-effective and positive manner.

REQUIREMENTS

10+ years construction and/or tradesman work

2-5 years experience managing in the carpentry and/or manufacturing industry

Valid CA Driver’s License and clean driving record

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

College experience is a plus

Metal and/or welding experience is a plus

Bilingual is a plus

 

MAJOR DUTIES

Shipping and Receiving, Packing, Order Processing, Routing, Inventory and Auditing ramp production. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; and resolving problems.

 

Decide how best to use the shop’s workers and equipment to meet production goals

Ensure that production stays on or ideally ahead of schedule.

Assist in selection and interview process as well as train new “build crew” employees.

Analyze process workflow, employee and space requirements and equipment layout; implement changes

Determine if new equipment and/or tools are necessary to purchase.

Monitor build crew and ensure they meet performance and safety requirements. 

Implement means of making the production process more efficient.

Help promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale.

Identify and address problems and opportunities for the company.

Meet or exceed operations labor budget expectations

Manage staff responsibilities, wages, hours. 

Communicate any quality control issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the overall product presentability.

 

COMPENSATION

$50K/ YR

Quarterly Bonus Program*

Labor Tracking 

At time of hire, a target labor percentage will be identified (i.e. payroll is not to exceed 25% of the business’s gross income). An incremental percentage will be awarded each quarter depending on how low the labor percentage goes. Since you’ll have power to hire/ fire your team and oversee the number of hours they work each week, you’ll have direct control over that labor percentage. 

Optimization Bonus Program

Shipping or material usage: should you discover a more cost-effective means of packaging, constructing, or storing any of our obstacles we will award you with a percentage of the value saved on those obstacles sold during the quarter. 

COG (cost of goods) incentive

Should you find an alternative supplier to source our materials from at a more cost effective rate, you will be compensated with a percentage based on the amount of money saved on that material during the quarter. 

*note: you will be responsible for the tracking and reporting of your bonus program numbers.

BUILD CREW MEMBER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Keen Ramps Inc. (a small skateboarding ramp manufacturing business located in Long Beach, CA) is seeking a hard-working, reliable invidiual to fill an open position on the “build crew”. We are currently looking for someone with carpentry, general fabrication, and/ or framing experience. Prior action sports ramp building preferred but by no means a requirement. Knowledge of painting, packaging freight pallets, and/ or driving a forklift is a plus.

 

Applicants must be familiar with basic hand tools, power tools, workshop environment, maintaining a clean and safe workspace, etc. The ability to work as part of a team in a safe and professional manner is a must. This is NOT an entry-level position.

Working conditions are mostly inside of our warehouse operating Skil Saws, chop saws, panel saws, painting, operating drills, and packaging pallets. Approximately a quarter to a third of the time the job will include completing tasks outside (i.e. Backyard half pipes at customers' residences or setting up skate courses at events). You must have a valid California driver's license and a clean driving record. Experience and or a forklift driving certification is highly desired, but not required. You should be in good physical shape. You must present helpful and productive customer service skills; Keen Ramps Inc. does what's needed to make our customers happy before, during, and after the work is completed. 


 

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 2 years of experience in carpentry and/or framing.

Familiarity and/or experience with skateboarding is highly desired.

Must possess a clean driving record and ability to pass a background check

Must bring and maintain a high level of comfort with learning new procedures and tasks to add to your experience.

 

COMPENSATION

$13-18/ hour depending on qualifications

 

SCHEDULE

24-40 hours as needed with occasional overtime.

Weekdays: 8:30 am to 5 pm / plus occasional weekends (depending on special events)
